About

I’ve always had an interest in the creation of audio & visual related things and spend most of my time as a photographer, musician, video editor or audio engineer.

Some background info (cue harp effect): When our family got our first video recorder back in 1986 I used to sit there and tape all of the Wide World of Sports rally car/skiing/pommel horse crash montages. I thought that would be really cool getting to put all of those together. It wasn’t until I did work experience at Channel 9 many years later that I discovered you couldn’t just do that everyday.

In between playing with Lego and reading Choose Your Own Adventure books I used to record my own radio shows complete with badly played guitar theme music. Fortunately for my family the guitar playing improved and I eventually graduated with a music degree from The University of Melbourne in 1999.

In my final year of study, I immersed myself in video production and landed an editing attachment position on a documentary. This led to more work assisting on television shows and feature films. I eventually got a job as an editor in a post-production facility where I worked for a few years on tv shows, commercials, short films and the occasional montage (no sporting mishaps unfortunately).

Perhaps due to this and also feeling the need to fill a creative gap in my musical side, I decided to go freelance and learn as much as I could about audio engineering. I began to do live sound for bands and got to discover and meet many great musical artists. During this time I also started assisting at a local recording studio and learned heaps of things about engineering and making albums.

Having this access to bands meant I was able to pursue an interest in photography by practicing on dimly lit stages and behind the mixing desk. After taking thousands of poorly framed, out of focus and under/overexposed shots, I was able to get a handle on what makes for a more aesthetically pleasing photo. Of course the learning process never ends and I am continually inspired by what I see and hear online and around me. Digitial media is both a blessing and a curse, unless you get good at the ‘delete’ button you’ll be sorting forever. Which reminds me, I’ve got shots to go through….
